<\/span><\/h3>\nThere are several built-in parental controls available on Android devices, including Digital Wellbeing tools. Via the device settings, these allow you to, among other things, set app timers and activate different modes on your child\u2019s device.<\/p>\n
These settings aim to promote healthy screen time habits, focus, and proper rest. They are available for supervised accounts on devices using Android 15 and later.<\/p>\n
To get started:<\/p>\n
\n- Open the Settings<\/strong> app on your Android device and tap Digital Wellbeing & parental controls<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- On the dashboard, you\u2019ll see Focus Mode<\/strong>, Bedtime Mode<\/strong>, and your screen time charts<\/strong>\u2014tap each to configure.<\/li>\n
- For app restrictions or age-appropriate content, tap Parental controls<\/strong> and follow the setup instructions.

\n- Open the Settings<\/strong> app on your child\u2019s device and choose Digital Wellbeing and parental controls<\/strong>.

<\/li>\n- You can now choose how to create a routine. Opt for Use a schedule<\/strong> to set the start and end of \u201csleeping times\u201d for the relevant days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
To further customize the Bedtime mode options:<\/p>\n
\n- Turn off the always-on screen at bedtime by choosing Keep the screen dark<\/strong> or change the screen to black and white by selecting Grayscale<\/strong>.

<\/li>\n- Choose Dim the wallpaper<\/strong> to lock the screen and dim the wallpaper at bedtime.<\/li>\n
- Make the screen background black at bedtime by selecting Dark theme<\/strong>\u2014if chosen, this theme will only be applied when Bedtime mode is on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
To use Focus mode:<\/p>\n
\n- Open the Settings<\/strong> app on your child\u2019s device, choose Digital Wellbeing and parental controls<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- Then select Focus mode<\/strong> and tap Turn on now<\/strong>.

<\/li>\n- Choose the apps to be temporarily paused. While Focus mode is enabled, the user won\u2019t be able to access these apps or receive notifications from them.<\/li>\n
- You can also Set a schedule<\/strong> to have Focus mode activated automatically.

\n- Open Settings <\/strong>\u2192 Digital Wellbeing & parental controls<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- Tap Dashboard<\/strong> (or sometimes App timers,<\/strong> depending on version).

- Set a time limit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- To require a PIN<\/strong> to override the limit, go to Settings <\/strong>\u2192 Digital Wellbeing & parental controls <\/strong>\u2192 Parental controls <\/strong>\u2192 App limits PIN<\/strong> (you may need a supervised account).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
You can also access the settings to manage how much time your child spends on Google Chrome\u2014or empower older children to better manage their own screen time. Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n
\n- Open the Settings<\/strong> tab on your child\u2019s device and tap Digital wellbeing & parental controls<\/strong>.

<\/li>\n- Tap the chart, and then the Google Chrome icon<\/strong>. If you can\u2019t see it, select Show all apps<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- Choose Show sites <\/strong>and then Show<\/strong>. Here, you can see the websites your child has visited and how much time they spent using them each day.<\/li>\n
- Tap on a site for more information on how they\u2019ve spent their time on it.<\/li>\n
- Parents, be aware<\/strong>: kids can tap Remove past visits <\/strong>to prevent the app from showing historic visits to a website, although it\u2019ll show up again on the chart if it\u2019s accessed again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
While these parental controls are useful, parents need to note that they\u2019re restricted. They offer basic regulation features to help kids manage their online activity, but don\u2019t provide robust oversight or the ability to reliably block access to apps or websites, apply content filters, or restrict in-app purchases.<\/p>\n
