How About Something Handmade?
Gifts made especially for the recipient are always special. Even if baking or crafting isn’t your thing, why not try your hand at one of these easy-make ideas?
Homemade Hair Mask
All you need for this sumptuous hair treat are a few simple ingredients, a clean Mason jar, and some pretty ribbon or simple twine to beautify your offering! Start by combining three-quarters of a cup of coconut oil, three-quarters of a cup of shea butter, and half a cup of olive oil.
Melt the mixture in a saucepan and, once this is done, allow it to fully cool, stirring every now and again, before pouring it into your jar. Add you ribbon and a hand written gift tag, and you’re ready to gift!
Homemade Soup Mix in a Jar
Create a colorful soup mix to brighten up your mom-in-law’s kitchen shelves and provide a handy mid-week meal when needed!
As before, you’ll need a clean glass jar with a lid, some twine, and the ingredients. The options are endless when it comes to creating soup mixes; for an especially vibrant mix, we recommend an Italian Barley recipe.
Layer these ingredients in your jar in this order: one cup of pearl barley, half a cup pf sundried tomatoes, one tablespoon of dried, chopped onions, one tablespoon of dried mixed garlic, two tablespoons of dried basil, one tablespoon of dried oregano, one tablespoon of dried parsley flakes, and one vegetable bouillon cube (in wrapper).
Handwrite a little note to attach to the jar to let the recipient know how to prepare the mix: they’ll need to unwrap the bouillon cube and add it, along with all the other ingredients, four cups of water, and a fourteen-ounce can of diced tomatoes to a saucepan. The mix should be brought to a high heat and then the temperature reduced to allow the soup to simmer for about twenty minutes, until the pearl barley is tender.
You won’t believe how easy and affordable it is to create a beautifully decorated, totally unique set of plates! All you need are some cheap white ceramic plates and Porcelain or Vitrea Markers.
If you’re creative, experiment with some simple line patterns or images; if art isn’t in your repertoire, consider writing a message on the plates or even inscribing some special song lyrics on them which are meaningful for your mother-in-law.
Depending on the pens you use, you’ll need to allow the ink to dry and then bake the plates in the oven for a set time to seal—check the packaging for the full instructions to follow.
